Industrial Glam Pink and Gold Home Office Moodboard

When Sean and I moved in together, he gave me ‘full control’ over the decor of the house as long as I followed a few simple rules: I have to at least run things by him (understandable), and I can’t paint any walls pink or purple (not so understandable). I have always dreamed of having a bright bright pink and gold home office/craft room, but how could I do that without pink walls??

As much as I hate to admit it, he’s probably right – pink walls are not going to be ideal come time to sell the house, and we don’t plan on staying here forever. I’ve decided that I’d much rather have a neutral base that I can always add pops of colour to versus having bright pink walls that limit how much I can swap out the decor later (which is good for someone as indecisive as I am). While it is possible to have pink walls that don’t make the room look like a little girl’s bedroom (I’m looking at you, Ariel), it was not a battle I was going to fight for when we had just moved in together, so neutral walls it is!

My solution to no pink on the walls? A ton of bright pink (and gold!) accessories all over the room including a rug, curtains & pillows! Here is my starting moodboard for the space:

The title is ‘Industrial Glam Pink & Gold Home Office Moodboard’ but so far, this is looking more glam than industrial 😉 We live in a two bedroom house, so this will also act as a guest room but I am focusing this mood board on the ‘office’ part instead of ‘guest room’. For over a year, it acted as a storage room for dialysis supplies and we are SO looking forward to that chapter being over and getting an entire room back! So this makeover won’t start for a few months once the paired donation + recovery + clean up are done.

Starting with the walls, right now I’m thinking of painting them ‘Calm’ by Benjamin Moore and adding a gallery wall with gold frames with some motivational prints inside. I LOVE these gold frames from Target, but since Target is no longer in Canada (which still makes me SO upset, three years later) I will likely try to DIY some- maybe I’ll even go for a Rose Gold! Other decor includes this adorable ‘Notes for my super awesome self‘ dry erase board from Hobby Lobby (another one I may DIY!), a Pink Letterboard (I got mine from the Target Dollar spot, but a similiar one can be found on Etsy), and this adorable pink watercolour donut print. I will also include the two paintings I ordered from the lovely artist Grace Lane Smith, located in Nova Scotia, who is a dear friend from Instagram.

There is only one window in this room, which I’ll outfit with the Ely Curtain Rod and Fedora Curtains in Pink, both from Structube.

Originally, I was torn on what to do for the desk – a clean, classic white or an industrial dark wood + black? I picked up a great wooden desk from a local Facebook Buy & Sell Group for $30 and I plan on painting it, but I can’t decide on a colour! It has a beautiful gold rim around the edge, but I just can’t decide if I should go for a clean, white look with the desk or a crisp black. What would you choose? I will definitely be keeping the gold trim, possibly spray painting it to make it pop even more. I will probably end up going with white, to keep it clean – as that look is what appears most in my home office inspiration looks.

On top of the desk, I dream of one day having an iMac! I started with a Macbook Pro in school, have just recently upgraded to a Macbook Air for easy travel but I would LOVE to have a stationary work desk with an iMac. I was going to wait out my dying Macbook Pro (it’s over 7 years old!) and upgrade to an iMac, but my laptop was in desperate need of an upgrade before we were ready to start this room makeover. So in a year or two, I will likely upgrade and use the Macbook Air for travel. For a chair, I’d love the Broadwell Traditional Office Chair in White but I’m not sure I want to spend over $300 for a chair. I already have the pillows that will go with the chair, some super soft and cozy pink faux fur pillows I picked up from Winners (similiar can be found here). I saw them at Winners last year and decided not to buy them, and of course regretted that once I got home. I could NEVER find them again and thought I was going to have to start my pillow search all over again, but one day they re-appeared in my local store and you can bet I snatched them up pretty quick. They are SO SOFT!

Under the desk will be the Kapadia Pink Area Rug from Bungalow Rose (now on Wayfair as the Decker Pink Area Rug for some reason). I actually have two of these rugs sized at 5 x 8 – one was ‘lost in shipping’, then appeared on my front porch a few days after the replacement arrived – so I may place them side-by-side to make one extra large area rug. I am in LOVE with this rug – it is so soft and the colours are even better in person than online. If you don’t LOVE pink, it is not the rug for you, but it is exactly what I was looking for.

For storage, I’ll be using my trust Ikea Expedit Shelves – I would love to wrap them in wood like Young House Love for some extra dimension and to tie in more of the ‘industrial look. I would go for a dark stained wood with a black wash (think white wash, but black LOL) over top – it just seems very time consuming to stain + paint all of the boards I would need for two shelves. It’s on my ‘one day’ project list!

For lighting, I love this look of this light fixture but since this room will also act as a guest room, I may need to compromise and find a new ceiling fan instead. Why don’t they make CUTE ceiling fans??

That wraps up my Industrial Glam Pink and Gold Home Office Moodboard for today! I can’t wait to get started on this space – I’m sure a few things will change, and I’ll add in some additional decor, but it’s going to be a great space to sit down and get some work done! We will likely also re-insulate the walls and I’d like to replace the wood panel walls with drywall, but we’ll see how that goes budget wise!

Do you have a dedicated home office space in your home? I’d love to see photos!

    Hello Meredith!
I am not that fan of pink myself but I love the desk and golden frames that you shared! Unfortunately I do not have dedicated home office in my 1-bedroom appartment, but I have small renovated desk with wooden boxes serving as shelfs – I painted them myself so they match the desk better. I can share the link if it’s not against your blog rules 🙂 Best! Marta

A desk is still a dedicated space! I only recently moved out of my one bedroom apartment so I totally get it – and I would LOVE to see the link!

I’m with you on the lack of Target sadness – I want those gold frames so badly – I have so many places they would work in my home 🙁

They seem to be the best value AND the cutest gold frames I can find! I’ll have to stock up one day when I make a trip down for some cross border shopping.
